Hey team,
Anyone heading to Merimbula this year?
I'm thinking of flying to Canberra on the 24th.
There's a flight that gets in around 9 am from Brisbane.
Just wondering if anyone is doing the same thing, maybe we could share a car to Merimbula

I was keen to do the drive down with the slingshot sales manager, but family life and my business sees me a bit time poor.

Is not a comp is a festival good party but not a fair competition and if you don't know the organisers and is not sponsored by a brand that is supporting the event no chances

There are prizes/awards specifically aimed at young people and newbies who have a good crack at it, who are stoked to be there and who never whinged!
Make sure you let the roaming judges know who you are
No 1 Rule - No whinging (not to be confused with Winging).

Its not a normal competition, Its the Merrimbula Classic, there are no heats, no rashies or competitor numbers. The judges are all the senior members of the club + long term attendees of the event. Even if people are kiting at another beach and really showing some talent and style with good attitude it will not go unnoticed.
Sure there are sometimes some strange decisions, especially if local legend Ben Wilson turns up ( apparently he can win without entering the water ha!)
Remember Rule No 1 - No Whinging!

Its all about the stoke, ,meeting old friends and making new ones, and having the time of your life on and off the water.

Can't wait!

Steve (also a judge, bribes willingly accepted, but I have a short memory)

Bribe him with beer, so I can steal it please. Its the best weekend Australia has to offer Scotty. Leo hits a nerve with a few people though because he takes his kiting very seriously.

Its family friendly as long as you dont mind hippies, occasionally nude people, or firecrackers spontaneously exploding inside clubs. We are all family down there, and it will be damn good to see eachother after a few years of covid.

Hi Scotty Been going to this event for years And is so chilled and met so many kiters who are now good mates and each year make new ones
1st year was on twin tip So much fun and chilled
Started wave board brand 2010 which James Carew a small tacker then started on my boards and also gave away a few junior boards back at the start
All who registered take price from table so everyone wins Also as Steve stated they are all ways looking for new junior talent to support

Hey mate, I was not having a chop at you at all. Sorry if it came across that way.

Mambo is all about having fun and enjoying the wind and waves. taking the competition or yourself seriously like old mate has no place there. I hope to share some waves with you over the long weekend and a beer on the beach afterwards

There are a number of options Re wind direction
main beach , Pambula Beach/ river mouth/ Short point And is influenced by wind from the north and winds coming from south The years I have been going You can not rely on forecasts Due to location of Merimbula Kited every time from 6m to 17 m kites

That all sounded great a pleasant relief from ego and sales central ...

Which is what those type of "oh I am in a competition look at me' is...which takes all the fun out of it.
Children in Africa and suffering dogs/cats etc in Greece Neal and bali etc are more important..
sound brilliant.
Have fun

Pick of the litter for waves is a southerly. The left at the bar goes off, really great wave to kite, angle is fantastic.
