Hi all,

My daughter and I want to start doing kitesurfing. Both of us without experience , my daughter is 12. We would like to learn kitesurfing from the beginning with an experienced instructor.
We live at North Sydney, and can drive to Central Coast or Botany if necessary.

Could you please advise where we can learn in a friendly and safe place.
Thanks

Helpful as usual

Clod, maybe try asking in the NSW section? You may find a useful response.

clod if you resort to using YouTube to learn how to kite, there's a slight chance that you could end up landing on your head like you know who

Kitepower runs lessons every windy day in Botany Bay.

I have just completed three lessons with Riccardo from kite power. I'm up and riding and feeling safe and confident. I notice that some of the other beginners who skipped the lessons have no idea how to waterstart and even walk up the beach with the kite in the safest way.

The advantage of getting proper lessons is that you are hooked up by a headset. That way you get immediate instruction on how to manage the kite.

I would recommend lessons as the safest and quickest way to progress.

KBL or Kitepower in Botany Bay - I have only started learning this year and unless you are a super experienced windsurfer there is no way you should attempt this without a few lessons!

I've been happy with KBL - took lessons on their equipment before buying anything. Paid for three session package. In hindsight it would have been better to practice more on the beach before doing the boat session, but I did the boat (3rd) session, then bought equipment. Before I took lessons I rented, then bought a trainer kite from Kitepower, but after getting the big kite, that's really what was best for learning to handle the kite. It was off-season when I rented the trainer, so the wind wasn't good - which is why I bought one. In the park the wind was inconsistent and gusty, which is different from the beach with unobstructed wind. I have tried to fly my Big kite in a few places where the wind was turbulent from nearby obstructions - lessons learned.
