Hi all, what's everyone surfing nowadays in the 10 foot range, and what do you like about the board?
Hi all, what's everyone surfing nowadays in the 10 foot range, and what do you like about the board?
Not sure on the 10ers but I've been using a 9 foot revolution lately and it's a lot of fun.
Holds really well in powerful waves
Turns easy
Easy to nose ride
Catches waves insanely easily.
The only things I don't like too much is how wide it feels I have a 29wide version and it feels wider than my 29 wide flow. But I think because it carries the width to the nose.
Having said that I'm looking to sell the 29 and get a 28 version. As it's a super fun board
Been riding my 10 ft x 28 x 4.25 DEEP board for the past 2 years. Set up as a thruster it surfs so well and turns on a dime. Not a full rounded nose but a semi which can still be ridden up he nose when needed.
Paddles into waves very easily.
Very thin rails and lots of tail kick help too.

How do you find your deep for durability?
Scotty makes a good longboard style 10 footer and a Hipster twin 10er as well. www.smiksup.com/longboard
I only ride 10 footers and love them dearly.
Have had a Style lord v1. Currently have a JL Striker and managed to score an Atlantis Mistress 2nd hand recently.
The striker is the most versatile for any conditions and can cross step to the nose on smaller days or take off like a demon on big Margaret River swell, and not too heavy.
But, I am loving the Mistress atm. Almost no rocker so need to be a bit more technical in the take off, and heavy to drag down to the water, but that thing catches anything and the extra weight, once you wind her up, maintains momentum like an old school longboard through any chop and makes for some sweet time up the front.
Yeah, my big girl. 10-6x31 custom sunova Surf. After a 3 week surf pause, filled with stress and bad sleep, it is my longboard comfort machine I needed to get back in it. At almost 61yo a shutdown has physical consequences. But the big blue glide machine keeps it good.

No worries with the durability of the deep but I do try to look after my boards.
I also have an Atlantis Mistress original Prototype from Tim at the SW. Only complaint is that it has faded a little. Had it for 3 years and love the longboard feel and nose riding ability due to the flat rocker. Running it as a 2 plus 1 .
It is bamboo and pvc wrap and I love the stability in the rough stuff at 28 inches and the round nose for hanging the toes over the front.

I have been riding my mstress a bit lately due to not being able to bend or b flexible eenough for my shorter boards i have rrv virus ! I love the glide and nearly got left toes over the nose couple times ! Shes a big board 4 me at 69 kg
I've had the SMIK hipster longboard for a year now and love it. Been riding a few surf tech Lairds over the years and a 10'6 Lopez but the smik is unreal. Waiting for an 8'6 hipster twin now to round it off.

I love my smiks but after riding my flow and revolution in bigger surf my smiks feel Terrible. I feel like they need a new version with some thinner rails.
We've got a pair of NT tweaked 10' Stylelord's coming , so we could give MangoDingo a run for his enthusiasm at his local thru the dry
Rumor is MD has been specing up a dry season fun optimizer.
Talk to Scotty with your personal preferences, there maybe something already going in that direction

Was thinking of a Sunova Speed but not 100% sure on the construction . Pretty happy with Smik construction though .

Cannot wait to see the new Stylelords BigHugg!
Yep , the new Timor Sea fun stick superglider is locked in my friend.
Dylan's been an absolute legend helping to dial in the new beast.
Watch this space - I better start a new thread for that one!
Great feedback people, appreciate it.
The reason I ask is because I absolutely love and have surfed my 9' x 28" smik hipster longboard constantly for 2 years now, but have a hankering for another 10 footer in the quiver.
I do have a 10' x 29" hipster longboard but struggle a little with it, even though I initially loved it. Having said that my young fella who is a pretty good longboarder can carve that big beast up, even though he's pretty light. I just find it a little awkward, maybe it's just that smidge too big for the shape, or maybe it's just me.
I'm gonna go with something a little more traditional this time, maybe a pin tail or square pin tail, 2 + 1 or thruster, still mulling it over.
Thanks for the comments, keep 'em comin'!

Hey mate, what size revolution do you have ??? I Keep looking at the 9x30 as I already have a 10' style and want a shorter more performancy board. I too have the 8'8 flow v2, and was concerned the 9' revo may be too 'close' a board ????

I bought the 9 x 29 xxx one that popped up for sale but feel it's too big for me so I'm going to get the 28 version.
Completely different board to the flow. Catches waves like a weapon
You guys are killing me ha ha I love 10'ers but not in a position to buy another one, has to be the most fun SUP size to surf IMO.
Will be keeping this thread in the memory banks when the time comes around.
My last one was a 10' Surefire J-Hawk - did everything, probably more then it should have as I kept pushing it til I ended up with 2 x 5'ers
Sunoave Steeze.
oes everything good outside of really big conditions that I cannot surf anyway. It is a great single allround surf board especially when you cannot surf very often.

10x 32 Smik stylelord which does it all, incredible board
10x31 Carbon Starboard longboard, great performance
10'8 x 32 custom Sunova Revolution, amazing glide
Hi Bomberdave,
I have the 9 x 30 Revolution and it is a great board. I have had a Fanatic 10 Stylemaster and have riden a Smik Stylelord a bit. The Revolution blows the Stylemaster away in every sense. Catches waves super easy, nose rides like a dream and performs off the tail.
I was reluctant to give up the Stylemaster as I loved that board. The Revolution more than met my expectations.
I love the longboard class as it is fun.

Ah- Brenno, I've been tucked away in the (virtual) shaping bay, trawling through the very darkest recesses of my sub-conscious ( which ain't pretty let me tell you), conjuring up a new magic board for the impending Dry Season here in the far north of Ozoidville (you know what I'm talkin' about).
I've been stooped over numbers and equations with funny little symbols and squiggles, shapes and countless surf vids trying to unlock the source.
Like an alchemist trying to knock up a batch of gold if you will (only with no gold at the end of it).
Like a troppo version of Gandalf with nothing but a pair of Birdwell 310s, a filthy old Hawaiian shirt and an old Jimmy Buffett rekid- stirring the cauldron of surf wizardry- well truth be known, Dylan was doing the wizardry , I was just kinda, well, watching. BUT - it was important watching! And mumbling incoherently for most of the time.
I was like Russell Crowe in A Perfect Mind - only without the intelligence - anyway. finally after countless furrowing of the brow, the ultra-fun-shred-beast is (almost) ready to be born...
But you'll have to wait, coz it's just not quite finished yet. (Apologies for the highjack!)

Lol, no need to apologise mate, I had a good laugh at that.
I am intrigued to see what you come up with. Are you going to have a rifle mount for the snappin' hand bags?
I used to love the dry season, never quite went long enough. Sitting around the fire on the block until we fell off our chairs, good times......
Take it easy Gandalf
Infinity New Deal 10x29.
Great allrounder. Especially good at the extreme sides of the spectrum - small and big conditions.
For reference, I am 6'4, 240 pounds.
Owned an Infinity New Deal 10x 29. Worked in all size waves. Light and bomber. It was not the best at noseriding in smaller waves however.
Well I've narrowed it down to one of these 3.....
I've toyed with the idea of the Infinity New Deal for a while, I love my Smiks, and I've owned and enjoyed a few good Sunovas.
Let you know how I go, and of course will post a review.
Cheers
